We are grateful for all the work that Dahle Scott McDuff & The Jammin Foundation, and the Living Legend Foundation have done for our beginnings. It is great when collaborations can happen and great community work continues. In 2020, we joined forces with Barbara Morrison and her newly formed nonprofit, Leimert Park Jazz & Blues Society, and we honored 4 Legends in conjunction with JazzZone JazZabration's Jazz In The Sky. In 2021, we continued the work and honored 8 Legends during our Jazz In The Sky. In collaboration with Dave Ross and the Jazz Salon, We honored 4 Legends in November.
In January 2022, JazzZone JazZabration, Inc. was born under the urging of our Queen, Barbara Morrison, who told us to get our nonprofit. We took her advice and formed JazzZone JazZabration, Inc. "JazzZone" has always been about the celebration of Mr. Roscoe Lee Owens' dad, Jimmie Owens, Legendary Drummer, and "JazZabration" has been trademarked for the many different celebrations that we do in our community around "Live Music." At our July Jazz In the Sky 2022, we added three more Legends.
Every 3rd Thursday at The Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center, we continue to honor and celebrate Legends. While honoring and celebrating is our Legacy, hiring our Legends is our passion.
A Foundation that has a passion and a heart for Living Jazz and Blues Legends. We created this Foundation with the purpose of educating our youth about honoring and celebrating Jazz and Blues Legends over 60+. Realizing that age is only a number, our goal, and mission is to make sure that Jazz and Blues live on in the hearts and minds of our future generation of Young Lions and Lioness of Jazz and Blues.
We started out creating a monthly community celebration to unite and bring old friendships together for a nice meal & some great music. These celebrations have united old friendships in the music world that had not seen each other for years. Our mission is unique in the fact that we select and honor Living Jazz and Blues Legends and honor and celebrate their contributions while they are alive to appreciate the honoring. We feel that if a person has dedicated 25+ years of their life to Jazz or Blues, then that is Legendary and needs to be celebrated.
We have signature events; every 3rd Thursday of the month at The Barbara Morrison Performance Arts Center, we have created a Living Legends Awards & Birthday Legacy Celebration event that takes place from 3 pm-6 pm. We celebrate February, African American Heritage Month JazZabration®, April 30th, International Jazz Day JazZabration®, June, our Annual Los Angeles City Council African American Music Appreciation JazZabration®, and in December, our Annual Hall of Fame Awards & Legacy Birthday Celebration Fundraiser.
We feel it is very important to honor and celebrate Living Legends while they are here amongst us. We also educate the families about the importance of Legacy Protection and Preservation. These projects are community events that bring the community together for a night of great food, fellowship, and great music.
We are always looking for great partnerships to help make these events incredible for our honorees. Please let us know if you would like to partner with us for any of our Signature events.
We NEED YOU, join our mailing list, send donations, or come volunteer at our events. Please join us in donating your Time, Talents, or Treasures to this great cause! If you would like to volunteer at our events or help with the production of our events, please fill out a volunteer contact form here on our site, we will get back to you shortly.
Our Story is unique, In 2009, Linda Morgan set out to make her mark in the Jazz & Blues community with education around Legacy Preservation of Jazz Musicians. She set the stage with a community event in Hollywood with Buddy Collette, Clora Bryant and Michael White as her guests, Marcus Johnson, a Jazz Pianist, performed and it was a Pre-Grammy Show. Roscoe Lee Owens attended the event and saw the amazing work that she was about to embark upon and he joined her and they started the work.
